Philanthropy

The difference between ‘charity’ and ‘philanthropy’ is often defined by what each seeks to address. Charity organizations, some say, aid or protect people, animals, and natural habitats affected by disaster, injury, disease, abuse, and a multitude of other hardships. Philanthropic groups, some believe, focus on the prevention of these issues by creating infrastructure, preventative medicine, educational and cultural programs, and protective habitats, among other things.  At Vesta, Steuben’s, and Ace, we have been given the opportunity to contribute to ‘charitable’ and ‘philanthropic’ organizations alike, including those listed below. Through contributions to over 130 groups, we have earned National Philanthropy Day recognition for ‘Outstanding Small Business’ as well as the Colorado Restaurant Association’s ‘Outstanding Professional’ and ‘Restaurant Neighbor’ awards.

While we enjoy the ability to give to so many different groups, we have found one area of work that may create both charitable and philanthropic solutions at the same time, and that is by working to benefit our youth. By helping youth overcome adverse situations we can build opportunities for these bright, young children to become impactful members of our community – to become citizens with the potential to solve the problems they face today and the issues we’ll face tomorrow.  This potential to create change led our company to partner with two great organizations, Urban Peak and Denver Housing Authority. With very different approaches, both organizations seek to provide our youth with safe, warm homes to lead healthier, more productive lives. Both Steuben’s and Ace Eat Serve work with Denver Housing Authority - Steuben’s annual Toy Drive benefiting DHA being one of our premier events of the year. Vesta Dipping Grill has worked with Urban Peak for over 10 years, helping raise over $250,000 for the organization since our relationship began. It is this work with Urban Peak that earned owners Josh and Jen Wolkon ‘Business Honoree’ recognition at the 2014 Maverick Thinkers Gala, typically Urban Peak’s highest yielding fundraiser of the year. (Learn more about Urban Peak here and Denver Housing Authority here.)

But, the Wolkon’s certainly could not have achieved all of this alone. The staff at each restaurant has embraced the company's mission to give back to the community by donating their own time, talents, and even tips to make these events successful.  They remain committed to creating fun and unique in-house events that are often affordable for their peers and a younger generation of philanthropists, opening their eyes to how joyful and easy it is to give back. We are fortunate and grateful that our staff enables us to utilize our venues, skills, and resources in such meaningful ways.
